Building a national classification system: insights from the UAE

Location: Lecture Hall 1, Building E, Khalifa University
A pivotal element of UAE's National Strategy for Higher Education 2030 has been the development of a Higher Education Excellence Framework which aims to track the achievement of its universities in a range of areas by establishing a transparent and universal set of targets. Launching in 2019, this classification will monitor the performance of UAE universities in order to further develop the UAE's knowledge economy and will provide a clear resource for the use of the government, the institutions themselves and the public.

THE sits down with Dr. Mualla, Undersecretary for Higher Education Academic Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Education, to discuss the impetus behind the project, the model itself and the challenges of measurement in a highly diverse and dynamic higher education sector.
